Amazon’s Investments Contribute Over EGP 29 Billion to Egypt’s Economy Over the Past Decade

Amazon announced that its investments have contributed more than EGP 29 billion to Egypt’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over the past decade, while supporting more than 60,000 direct, indirect, induced and seasonal jobs across the country.

The announcement was made during the Global Entrepreneurship Festival, the largest entrepreneurship event in Africa, held in Cairo under the auspices of Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly.

According to an analysis conducted by economic consultancy Keystone Strategy, Amazon’s contribution to Egypt’s GDP reflects its cumulative investments in infrastructure, technology, logistics and employee compensation over the past ten years.

Omar Elsahy, General Manager of Amazon Egypt, said the company’s presence in Egypt reflects its long-term confidence in the country and its people.

He added that Amazon has consistently invested in infrastructure, technology and logistics, while supporting tens of thousands of Egyptian businesses that grow and create jobs through its platform.

Elsahy noted that the figures reflect not only the company’s investments but also the ambition of Egyptian entrepreneurs, the resilience of local businesses and the capabilities of the Egyptian workforce.

Amazon Supports More Than 60,000 Jobs Across Egypt

Amazon’s presence in Egypt has expanded steadily since its acquisition of Souq.com in 2017 and the launch of Amazon.eg in 2021.

Over the past decade, the company has supported more than 60,000 direct, indirect, induced and seasonal jobs across logistics, operations, technology and professional services.

These opportunities span Amazon’s fulfillment and logistics operations, its regional customer service center, as well as suppliers, delivery partners and service providers whose activities are supported by the company’s presence.

Beyond its direct operations, thousands of small and medium-sized Egyptian businesses sell and expand through Amazon, creating jobs and supporting local communities across the country.

Today, tens of thousands of Egyptian selling partners reach customers across Egypt and international markets, with the jobs and economic activity they generate forming an important part of Amazon’s broader contribution to the Egyptian economy.

Amazon Expands Services and Strengthens Local Investment

Amazon has also continued to expand its services for customers in Egypt, including Amazon Now, which delivers groceries, fresh produce sourced from local farmers and everyday household essentials within minutes through a network of micro-fulfillment centers across the country.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to empowering entrepreneurs, supporting small and medium-sized businesses, and investing in the people, technology and infrastructure that contribute to Egypt’s economic growth.

As Egypt continues to focus on private-sector investment, entrepreneurship and job creation, Amazon plans to build on its long-term presence in the Egyptian market.
