EFG Hermes Expands Brokerage Operations on Abu Dhabi Securitie

EFG Hermes UAE LLC, a subsidiary of EFG Hermes and a financial entity licensed by the UAE Capital Market Authority (CMA), has launched market making and liquidity provision services on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX), expanding its brokerage offering in the UAE.

The new services aim to strengthen market liquidity, support trading activity, and improve access to listed securities. Under the arrangement, EFG Hermes UAE will place buy and sell orders in selected ADX-listed securities in accordance with exchange rules and regulatory requirements, helping maintain price availability and facilitate trading.

Market making plays an important role in supporting the efficiency of capital markets by maintaining buying and selling interest in securities. This can help narrow the bid-ask spread, reduce trading costs, and contribute to more transparent price discovery.

Liquidity provision can also support listed companies by encouraging more consistent trading in their shares after listing. Improved liquidity may increase the visibility of listed securities among local, regional, and international institutional investors, while helping investors enter and exit positions more efficiently.

The launch builds on EFG Hermes UAE’s existing brokerage, research, execution, and investment banking capabilities, extending its support for companies and investors beyond the initial listing stage. The move also comes amid continued development in Abu Dhabi’s capital markets, driven by new listings, broader investor participation, and growing interest from international institutions.

Saker Asllan, Chief Exchange Operations Officer at ADX, welcomed EFG Hermes UAE to the exchange’s market maker network, highlighting the role market makers play in supporting liquidity, increasing trading activity, and improving investors’ access to listed securities.

He said the exchange looks forward to EFG Hermes’ active contribution to deepening the ADX market and enabling more investors to pursue their investment objectives.

Ahmed Waly, Global Head of Brokerage at EFG Hermes, described the launch as an important step in expanding the company’s brokerage services in the UAE and supporting one of the region’s established capital markets.

He added that the services are intended to strengthen trading activity, improve investor access, and provide listed companies with continued support after listing, while contributing to a more efficient and liquid market.

Amr El Shamy, Head of Electronic Trading and Execution Services at EFG Hermes, noted that market making and liquidity provision require robust trading systems, disciplined risk management, and the ability to maintain consistent buy and sell orders throughout market hours.

He said the company’s electronic trading platform has been developed to support efficient execution on ADX and enhance the trading experience for both institutional and individual investors.

Raymond Wasef, Head of Market Making and Liquidity Provision at EFG Hermes, emphasized that liquidity benefits both listed companies and investors by helping shares trade more actively and providing greater confidence when executing transactions.

He explained that EFG Hermes’ role on ADX is to maintain a consistent presence on both the buying and selling sides of the market, supporting more continuous trading activity.

The launch forms part of EFG Hermes UAE’s broader strategy to contribute to the development of capital markets across the region. Through its brokerage platform, market access, research capabilities, and execution services, the company aims to strengthen connections between issuers and investors and support more efficient trading environments.
