Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly prominent part of everyday life in Egypt, extending beyond work-related tasks to information searches, content creation and personal advice. A recent survey commissioned by Kaspersky highlights this growing adoption while raising concerns about data privacy, cybersecurity and the reliability of AI-generated responses.
Nearly 80% of respondents in Egypt said they use AI services, including smart chatbots and tools for generating images and videos. Searching for and summarizing information was the most common use case, cited by 71% of participants, followed by writing texts at 49%.
Other popular applications included generating images from text prompts (45%), editing or transforming personal photos (42%) and creating videos (34%).
AI Becomes a Source of Personal Advice
The survey indicates that users are increasingly turning to AI not only to complete tasks but also to seek guidance on personal matters and everyday decisions.
Health-related questions were among the most common uses, with 41% of respondents saying they consult AI on health topics. Another 26% use these services to plan leisure activities, including weekends, vacations and parties, while 24% rely on them to prepare meal plans.
Meanwhile, 45% of participants said they turn to AI for advice on other personal issues, highlighting the expanding role of these tools in everyday decision-making.
However, Kaspersky experts warn that such interactions may involve sensitive personal information. If this data is exposed, misused by third parties or accessed by cybercriminals, users could face privacy and cybersecurity risks.
Concerns Over AI Accuracy and Data Privacy
The growing use of AI also raises questions about the accuracy of the information these services provide. According to the survey, one in ten respondents had encountered incorrect information generated by AI, while 20% believed that AI services could provide inaccurate answers.
These findings underscore the importance of critically evaluating AI-generated content and verifying information through reliable sources, particularly when dealing with sensitive subjects such as healthcare, legal matters, finance and education.
Seifallah Jedidi, Head of Consumer Channel in the Middle East, Turkiye and Africa at Kaspersky, said users should understand the limitations and potential risks associated with AI services.
He noted that even widely used AI platforms may have security vulnerabilities that could expose data. Information shared with these services may also be processed or accessed by third parties, depending on the provider’s terms and privacy policies.
Jedidi stressed the importance of developing sound digital habits, including verifying information, handling personal data carefully and critically assessing AI-generated responses. He also warned that cybercriminals increasingly use fake AI agents and services to distribute malware, sometimes disguising malicious tools as well-known AI resources.
Four Ways to Reduce Cybersecurity Risks When Using AI
Kaspersky recommends the following precautions to help users protect their personal information and reduce cybersecurity risks when using AI services:
- Avoid sharing sensitive or confidential information. Do not upload private documents, correspondence, passwords, payment details or health information to AI platforms.
- Review data-handling policies before using a service. Check what information the platform collects and how it may be processed, stored and used.
- Verify AI-generated information through reliable sources. This is particularly important for medical, legal, financial and educational topics, where inaccurate information can have serious consequences.
- Watch out for fake AI services and scams. Phishing pages, malicious software and fraudulent websites may imitate legitimate AI platforms or promote counterfeit AI tools. Comprehensive security solutions, including Kaspersky Premium, use AI-powered technologies to help protect users in everyday digital environments.
The survey was conducted at Kaspersky’s request in 2026 and included 5,000 interviews across five countries: the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkiye and South Africa.
