Infinity Power, Africa’s largest pure-play renewable energy provider, and Hassan Allam Utilities Energy have announced the start of full-scale construction of the Nefer Minya Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Project in West Minya, Egypt, following the issuance of the Notice to Proceed (NTP).
The project features 1.2 GWp of solar photovoltaic capacity integrated with a 600 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), positioning it among Egypt’s major renewable energy developments. Commercial operations are targeted to begin in September 2027.
The project is being jointly developed by Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities Energy, the renewable energy investment platform established by Hassan Allam Utilities. Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works will be delivered through a joint venture between Hassan Allam Construction and Sterling & Wilson.
The issuance of the NTP follows the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in November 2025 and the commencement of preliminary construction activities in June.
Battery Storage to Strengthen Grid Flexibility
The Nefer Minya project combines large-scale solar generation with battery storage technology to improve the availability of renewable electricity during periods of high demand.
The BESS is designed primarily to shift energy generated during peak daytime solar production to evening hours, when electricity demand typically rises. This approach is expected to enhance grid stability, improve the integration of renewable energy into Egypt’s national electricity network, and support the country’s broader energy security objectives.
By combining solar power generation with energy storage, the project aims to make clean electricity available beyond daylight hours, improving the flexibility and efficiency of renewable energy supply.
Project Expected to Power More Than 1.4 Million Homes
Once operational, the project is expected to generate enough clean electricity to supply approximately 1,419,237 homes annually and avoid around 1,593,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.
The development is expected to contribute to Egypt’s renewable energy ambitions and long-term decarbonization objectives by expanding clean electricity generation and supporting a more resilient power grid.
Hassan Allam: Project Marks Progress in Egypt’s Energy Transition
Amr Allam, CEO of Hassan Allam Holding, said the Nefer Minya project represents a significant step forward in developing Egypt’s renewable energy infrastructure by combining utility-scale solar generation with battery storage to deliver clean electricity when it is most needed.
He added that the transition to full-scale construction reflects the group’s commitment to investments that strengthen energy security, enhance grid resilience, and accelerate Egypt’s transition toward cleaner energy sources.
Allam noted that the collaboration between Hassan Allam Utilities Energy and the execution capabilities of Hassan Allam Construction brings together investment and construction expertise to create long-term value for Egypt’s power sector.
Infinity Power Advances Its Renewable Energy Expansion Plans
Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Co-Founder and Chairman of Infinity Power, said the issuance of the Notice to Proceed moves the Nefer Minya project from its initial development phase into full-scale construction, bringing it closer to delivering a significant addition to Egypt’s energy sector.
He explained that combining 1.2 GWp of solar capacity with 600 MWh of battery storage will support reliable renewable electricity generation at scale while strengthening grid stability and energy security.
Mansour added that the milestone advances Infinity Power’s ambition to reach 10 GW of operational renewable energy capacity by 2032.
Eng. Nayer Fouad, Co-Founder and CEO of Infinity Power, described the Notice to Proceed as a defining milestone in delivering one of Egypt’s significant renewable energy projects.
He highlighted the role of integrated solar and battery storage solutions in supporting a more secure, sustainable, and resilient energy future for the country.
Omar Hosny, Chief Development Officer of Energy and Water at Hassan Allam Utilities, said integrating 1.2 GWp of solar capacity with a 600 MWh battery storage system demonstrates the growing importance of integrated renewable energy solutions in improving grid flexibility and maximizing the value of clean power.
He added that the project reflects the scale and ambition of the company’s renewable energy platform, as well as its focus on developing projects that contribute to a more reliable and future-ready energy system.
Infinity Power’s Renewable Energy Portfolio
Infinity Power is a joint venture between Egypt-based Infinity and the UAE’s Masdar. The company develops renewable energy projects across Africa, focusing primarily on solar and wind power, alongside technologies such as battery storage.
According to the company, its operational portfolio totals approximately 1.3 GW across Egypt, South Africa, and Senegal, helping avoid more than 3 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. It also has 3.8 GW of projects in advanced stages of development.
The company aims to expand its operational renewable energy capacity to 10 GW by 2032.
