Egypt’s Housing Minister: Launch of Alam El Roum Investment Zone Marks New Step Toward Boosting Investment on the Northwestern Coast

Randa El Menshawy: The project reflects Egypt’s commitment to expanding partnerships with the private sector and attracting Arab and foreign investment. Major projects are measured by their ability to deliver tangible development impact.

Eng. Randa El Menshawy, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, participated in the launch event for the investment zone of the Alam El Roum project on Egypt’s Northwestern Coast, organized by Qatar Diar. The launch marks an important step toward developing the project’s investment components and opening new opportunities for diverse economic activities that support urban and tourism development in the region.

The minister emphasized that the launch reflects Egypt’s serious commitment to strengthening partnerships with the private sector and attracting further Arab and foreign investment. This approach is based on a vision aimed at maximizing the use of the country’s resources and potential while creating economic and investment opportunities that contribute to sustainable development.

The event was attended by Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade; Dr. Walid Abbas, Deputy Minister of Housing for New Urban Communities; Dr. Yasser Sobhy, Deputy Minister of Finance for Fiscal Policies; Counselor Sherif El-Shetaiwy, Head of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Council; Dr. Mohamed Awad, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI); and Eng. Taleb Al Athba, Vice Chairman of Qatar Diar Egypt, alongside several officials and representatives of the relevant entities.

Alam El Roum: An Integrated Development Project on Egypt’s Northwestern Coast

Eng. Randa El Menshawy explained that the Alam El Roum project represents an important opportunity to translate Egypt’s urban development vision into reality through an integrated development that capitalizes on the natural, tourism, and investment potential of the Northwestern Coast.

She added that the project supports the government’s efforts to diversify the economic base and extend urban development beyond the Nile Valley and Delta, helping establish new urban communities capable of attracting investment, creating jobs, and stimulating economic activity.

The minister noted that Egypt’s strategy for developing the Northwestern Coast goes beyond urban expansion alone. It is based on a broader vision to redistribute development and investment, establish new economic centers, and strengthen integration among tourism, real estate, and service activities. This approach is intended to generate added value for the national economy.

Diverse Investment Opportunities and Added Economic Value

The Housing Minister highlighted that launching the investment zone represents a significant step in developing the project’s investment components, enhancing its ability to attract capital, and opening the door to a range of economic activities that can stimulate business activity and broaden investor participation.

These activities are expected to support tourism, services, and real estate development, while creating direct and indirect employment opportunities, strengthening the project’s economic impact, and contributing to Egypt’s broader development objectives.

El Menshawy stressed that the success of major projects should not be measured solely by the volume of investment they attract, but also by their ability to deliver tangible development outcomes, create jobs, contribute productive and service-based activities to the national economy, and establish integrated urban communities capable of achieving long-term sustainability.

Government Coordination to Support Implementation and Attract Investment

Eng. Randa El Menshawy reaffirmed the Egyptian government’s commitment to supporting the Alam El Roum project and advancing its implementation by creating a favorable environment for achieving its development and investment objectives, in coordination with the relevant authorities and Qatar Diar.

She emphasized the importance of aligning the project’s planning vision with implementation requirements to ensure that its investment potential is fully realized, while maintaining a balance between maximizing economic returns and preserving the area’s natural and environmental assets.

The minister concluded by reaffirming that the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities will continue to support urban and investment development, strengthen partnerships with the private sector, and accelerate the implementation of major projects to achieve their intended objectives.

She expressed her hope that the launch of the investment zone would mark a successful new phase in advancing the Alam El Roum project and realizing its investment and development goals, reflecting the depth of Egyptian-Qatari relations and opening broader horizons for economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.
