Karim Badawi Steps Up Monitoring of Egypt’s Natural Gas Flows to Ensure Supply Security

Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has inspected the National Natural Gas Network Control Center (NATA) at the headquarters of the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), as part of ongoing efforts to monitor energy supplies and ensure the availability of natural gas to meet domestic market demand.

The visit aimed to review the management and operation of Egypt’s national gas network, assess its operational readiness and examine the efficiency of control systems responsible for monitoring natural gas flows and ensuring uninterrupted supplies to various consumption sectors, amid ongoing regional developments and volatility in global energy markets.

During the visit, Badawi reviewed the latest natural gas supply situation from various sources, including domestic production and imports, as well as the mechanisms for receiving, transporting and distributing gas through the national network.

The review was attended by Eng. Sayed Selim, Managing Director and CEO of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS); Eng. Mohamed Marzouk, Chairman of GASCO; and members of the National Control Center’s technical team.

The minister examined the monitoring and control systems overseeing natural gas flows across the national network, including mechanisms for responding promptly to changes in supply and consumption rates.

These systems provide the flexibility needed to manage and allocate available gas volumes according to the priorities and requirements of different sectors, particularly electricity generation, industry and other consumers, while maintaining network stability and continuity of supplies.

Badawi stressed the importance of continued coordination and integration among the various entities within the petroleum sector to enhance the efficiency of natural gas management and strengthen the reliability of the national supply system.

He also called for intensified efforts to accelerate the connection of newly drilled wells to domestic production, increase output rates and narrow the gap between production and consumption.

Such measures, he noted, would help reduce reliance on imports and strengthen Egypt’s ability to secure its energy requirements amid geopolitical developments and changing conditions in international energy markets.

The minister praised the efforts of the National Natural Gas Control Center’s employees, highlighting their vital role in managing and operating the national gas network and monitoring gas flows around the clock.

He emphasized the importance of continuously improving operational efficiency and response capabilities to ensure network stability and reliable natural gas supplies to all consumer sectors.
