Bupa Arabia Cooperative Insurance Company has invested a total of SAR 84 million in its health insurance programme for orphans since its launch in 2011. The programme serves between 2,000 and 3,000 orphans each year, with more than 34,000 policies issued to date. These efforts reflect the company’s commitment to social responsibility and expanding access to healthcare for the Kingdom’s most vulnerable groups.
The company highlighted the programme’s achievements, alongside its health, humanitarian and volunteering initiatives, during its participation in the Global CSR Forum 2026, hosted by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in Riyadh. The programme’s 15-year journey began with health coverage for just 18 children and has since expanded to reach thousands of orphans annually.
Sustainable Impact
Eng. Loay Hisham Nazer, Chairman of Bupa Arabia, said:
“Corporate social responsibility is not limited to launching initiatives or providing support. It is about fulfilling commitments and turning them into sustainable, measurable impact. Over the past 15 years, we have remained committed to providing health coverage for orphans, driven by our belief in the importance of continuity of care and ensuring that it reaches those who need it most.”
He added:
“We believe that applying the company’s expertise and core capabilities to serve beneficiaries is one of the most important aspects of corporate social responsibility. We have therefore worked to provide health services that meet the needs of orphans, supported by clear processes for cases requiring exceptional approvals.”
Health Coverage
Delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the orphan health insurance programme operates through 25 orphan care centres across 12 cities in the Kingdom. Coverage includes the benefits provided under the standard health insurance policy approved by the Insurance Authority, with an annual limit of up to SAR 500,000 per beneficiary.
Beneficiaries also have access to the Key Accounts Contact Centre, which helps expedite pre-authorisation and claims procedures in line with their needs. The programme also has a defined process for reviewing requests for exceptional approval for treatments beyond standard coverage limits.
In 2025, the programme settled 22,985 medical claims worth a total of SAR 11.5 million and processed 11,911 pre-authorisation requests, of which 78.6% were approved based on medical evidence. The programme also responded to 91% of requests within ten minutes, demonstrating its operational efficiency and ability to address beneficiaries’ needs promptly.
Supporting Orphans
The programme has also helped beneficiaries access treatment requiring exceptional approvals. These cases included a teenager who needed a prosthetic limb that fell outside standard coverage and an infant who required a finger implant, as well as cases involving dental treatment and reconstructive surgery.
Bupa Arabia’s support for orphans extends beyond health insurance to social and educational initiatives. Since 2023, the company has provided school supplies to more than 200 orphans annually. It has also organised career-readiness workshops covering CV writing, interview preparation and job-search techniques. The workshops benefited 416 orphans in 2021 and more than 200 in 2025, with employee volunteers helping deliver the activities.
In 2025, 148 employee volunteers took part in Eid visits that reached 300 orphans. The visits included distributing gifts and organising social activities, alongside gatherings for foster families and company employees to strengthen community ties.
As part of its commitment to sustainable charitable giving, Bupa Arabia established a Waqf through the Ehsan platform in 2025. Under the initiative, Bupa Arabia matches employee donations, doubling the total contribution to charitable causes.
Community Inclusion
Bupa Arabia’s social responsibility initiatives also extend to different segments of society. In 2025, the company organised events marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, reaching 314 beneficiaries.
In the healthcare sector, 94 employee volunteers visited patients with cancer and chronic diseases at hospitals in Jeddah, Riyadh and Al Khobar. The visits aimed to provide humanitarian support and strengthen personal connections with patients.
The initiatives also extended to older people living in care homes, with 75 employee volunteers spending time with 230 elderly residents through activities designed to foster human connection and enhance quality of life.
Supporting Families
To support families most in need, Bupa Arabia’s community initiatives included rebuilding nine homes for beneficiary families and providing household appliances to 49 brides. The company also supported the Furejat debt-relief initiative through the Ehsan platform and organised clothing donation campaigns in collaboration with Kiswat Al-Sayida Aisha.
A total of 414 employees took part in donation initiatives in 2025.
Meanwhile, between 320 and 400 employees participate annually in blood donation campaigns in cooperation with a blood bank, helping meet healthcare needs while promoting a culture of volunteering and community participation.
A Culture of Volunteering
Bupa Arabia delivers its corporate social responsibility initiatives by engaging employees and drawing on their expertise to support beneficiaries. The company also builds strategic partnerships with government entities, care centres, healthcare providers and community organisations.
In 2025, the company launched an initiative to sponsor orphans on behalf of its employees and their families. In 2024, Bupa Arabia received the Silver Award for Corporate Social Responsibility in recognition of its continued efforts to strengthen community engagement and expand volunteering activities.
Strategic Framework
Bupa Arabia’s corporate social responsibility strategy is guided by five key criteria: achieving tangible impact, ensuring sustainability, leveraging the company’s core expertise, strengthening employee participation and developing partnerships with regulatory bodies and service providers.
The company monitors performance indicators covering claims, approvals and response times, alongside the number of beneficiaries, volunteers and contributions, to evaluate the results of its initiatives and develop them regularly.
