Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has underscored the growing importance of water, energy and infrastructure as fundamental drivers of economic growth, national competitiveness and improved quality of life, stressing the need to enhance resource efficiency, attract investment and strengthen local manufacturing.
Madbouly made the remarks on Monday during his participation in the fifth edition of the International Water, Waste and Infrastructure Exhibition & Conference (IWWI 2026), held from October 26 to 28 at the Cairo International Conference and Exhibition Centre.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Cabinet, the prime minister said the challenges facing these sectors extend beyond expanding service coverage to ensuring the sustainable management of resources, improving operational efficiency and maximizing returns on investment.
He highlighted the mounting pressures resulting from limited natural water resources, growing demand, climate change and global economic challenges, emphasizing the importance of developing practical solutions that support long-term economic and environmental sustainability.
Madbouly stressed that achieving future development goals requires more than strategic planning. It also depends on translating plans into successful projects, attracting investment that generates added value, strengthening domestic industrial capabilities and building partnerships that deliver tangible benefits for the economy and society.
He expressed hope that this year’s edition would achieve its objectives by expanding cooperation, creating new investment opportunities, encouraging innovation and localizing industry, thereby strengthening the water, energy and infrastructure sectors and supporting Egypt’s sustainable development goals.
Smart Technologies and Local Manufacturing in Focus
During his visit to the exhibition, Madbouly toured several pavilions accompanied by ministers, governors and senior officials. He received presentations from participating companies and organizations on the latest equipment, technologies and technical solutions for drinking water production, wastewater treatment and seawater desalination.
The presentations also highlighted the growing adoption of smart systems and digital transformation, alongside efforts to improve operational and maintenance efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
Participating companies showcased initiatives aimed at expanding local manufacturing and localizing the production of electromechanical equipment and machinery, supporting Egypt’s efforts to strengthen domestic industrial capacity and reduce reliance on imported technologies.
Madbouly emphasized the importance of using the exhibition as a platform to deepen cooperation between government entities and Egyptian and international companies, while promoting industrial and investment partnerships in line with the state’s plans to develop the drinking water and wastewater sector.
IWWI 2026 Brings Together 61 Companies
Held under the theme “Water for Tomorrow” and under the auspices of the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, IWWI 2026 brings together 61 national and international companies, including manufacturers and exhibitors specializing in water, energy and infrastructure technologies.
The event also features ministers, governors, heads of authorities, policymakers, investors, representatives of domestic and international companies, and specialists in water technologies from Egypt and abroad.
The exhibition seeks to identify new opportunities for cooperation and industrial partnerships, with a particular focus on localizing the production of electromechanical equipment and advancing water technologies in Egypt.
Alongside the exhibition, a specialized conference brings together experts, government officials and water technology specialists to discuss emerging trends, sector challenges and innovative solutions in water supply and wastewater management.
The conference also provides a platform for exchanging expertise, exploring modern technologies and supporting Egypt’s efforts to improve water management and advance sustainable development.
IWWI 2026 is being held alongside the ninth edition of Cairo Water Week, which runs from October 25 to 29, further highlighting the importance of water security, technological innovation and cross-sector cooperation in Egypt’s development agenda.
