Madinet Masr (EGX: MASR.CA) announced that its President and CEO, Eng. Abdallah Sallam, has been named to Forbes Middle East’s Sustainability Leaders 2026 list for the first time, ranking 13th in the Real Estate and Construction category.
The recognition highlights Sallam’s efforts to advance sustainable urban development and integrate environmental and social responsibility into the company’s long-term strategy. It also marks his ninth recognition by Forbes Middle East, reflecting Madinet Masr’s ongoing transformation since he assumed leadership in 2022.
Among the key initiatives supporting the company’s sustainability efforts is Buyut Al-Khalifa, launched in 2025 in collaboration with the Built Environment Collective and under the supervision of the Supreme Council of Antiquities. Located on Al-Rukbiyya Street in Historic Cairo, the project aims to create a model for sustainable urban regeneration that brings together architectural heritage preservation, environmental sustainability, and community development.
Covering 3,000 square meters, the project includes restoring three historic buildings, refurbishing 19 building facades, and rehabilitating 1,200 square meters of public spaces through improved paving, landscaping, and lighting. Implementation is planned across three phases over three years, with the broader objective of preserving Cairo’s cultural identity, improving residents’ quality of life, and supporting the sustainable revitalization of Historic Cairo.
Madinet Masr is also advancing sustainability initiatives across its real estate developments and corporate operations. At Taj City and Sarai, the company is expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure while pursuing plans to transition its corporate and operational vehicle fleets to electric vehicles.
At its headquarters, the company has introduced energy-efficiency measures, including rooftop solar panels, smart lighting systems equipped with motion sensors, and energy-efficient cooling systems. These measures form part of its broader efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and incorporate sustainable practices across its operations and developments.
Forbes Middle East’s Sustainability Leaders 2026 list features 145 executives across 17 sectors, recognizing their contributions to sustainability, environmental impact reduction, and the region’s transition toward a more sustainable future.
Sallam’s inclusion underscores Madinet Masr’s continued focus on a responsible development model that extends beyond conventional real estate development to include environmental stewardship, heritage conservation, and long-term value creation for communities.
