Half of respondents in Egypt use artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tools for work-related tasks, while nearly a third use the technology to prepare their resumes, according to a survey commissioned by Kaspersky in 2026.
The findings highlight AI’s growing role in the job application process. While the technology can help candidates tailor their resumes to specific vacancies and include relevant keywords to improve their chances of passing automated screening systems, excessive reliance on AI may result in generic language and a loss of personal touch.
To help job seekers benefit from AI while protecting their information and maintaining authenticity, Kaspersky has outlined several recommendations for using the technology safely when preparing a resume.
Protect Your Personal Data Before Using AI
Kaspersky advises job seekers to remove confidential information before uploading their resumes to AI chatbots. This includes names, phone numbers, home addresses, email addresses, company names and scanned documents.
The company also recommends reviewing chatbot privacy settings and disabling options that allow submitted queries to be used for model improvement, where available. Users should check the service’s privacy policy and avoid sharing information they would not want to become publicly accessible.
Prepare for AI-Based Resume Screening
Many large and medium-sized companies use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to collect and sort job applications. These platforms increasingly incorporate AI tools to screen and filter resumes.
However, passing the initial automated screening stage does not guarantee a positive impression on recruiters. Human reviewers may be less receptive to resumes that rely heavily on AI-generated language.
Kaspersky therefore recommends tailoring resumes to the requirements of a specific role while ensuring that the content remains clear, authentic and relevant to human readers.
Use AI as an Editor, Not an Author
Job seekers should draft their resumes themselves, highlighting their most relevant experience, skills and achievements before using AI to improve the wording and structure.
AI can help refine language, organize information and emphasize experience relevant to a vacancy. However, relying on it to produce the entire document may result in clichéd expressions or inaccurate representations of a candidate’s skills and experience.
Review Every Detail Before Submitting a Resume
Before sending a resume to a recruiter, candidates should remove unnecessary personal details and ensure that it does not contain information protected by non-disclosure agreements.
Kaspersky also recommends checking headings, dates and section order, improving readability, and using DOCX or PDF formats without complex graphics. Candidates should verify every claim and ensure they can substantiate their stated qualifications and achievements during an interview, as AI-generated content may exaggerate certain details.
“AI-powered writing tools are incredibly valuable for structuring and polishing content, but we must remember that public chatbots are essentially data sponges,” said Lama Saqquor, security and privacy expert at Kaspersky.
She added that submitting a complete career history, contact details or confidential achievements to an external AI platform can reduce users’ control over how their sensitive information is stored and processed, potentially exposing it through future training models.
Saqquor recommends treating AI as an analytical partner that can improve formatting and identify structural gaps, while preserving the candidate’s professional voice and keeping private data protected.

Kaspersky’s Tips for Safer Job Searching
Kaspersky experts also recommend the following precautions to help job seekers avoid online threats:
- Verify links before opening them: Check links received by email or messaging apps, including those related to vacancies, video interviews and assessment assignments, as they may lead to phishing pages or malware.
- Use strong, unique passwords: Create a different, complex password for each service and consider using a password manager to store credentials and financial information securely.
- Check suspicious job offers: Research employers and verify the authenticity of websites and other resources before sharing personal information, especially when an offer seems too good to be true.
- Avoid publishing full resumes publicly: Maintain a concise professional profile on social media and share the complete resume only when requested.
