Schneider Electric and Air Liquide Launch Sustainable Project in Port Said

Schneider Electric and Air Liquide Egypt have inaugurated a joint community development project in Al-Radwan village, in the southern part of Port Said Governorate, bringing solar-powered irrigation and drinking water treatment solutions to local communities.

The initiative reflects the two companies’ shared commitment to supporting underserved communities through sustainable, technology-enabled solutions, while promoting more efficient resource management and strengthening essential local infrastructure.

The project adopts an integrated approach based on the Water-Energy-Food Nexus, combining two solar-powered irrigation pumping stations with a decentralized drinking water treatment station. By leveraging Schneider Electric’s expertise in energy technology, the initiative integrates electrification and renewable energy to improve resource efficiency, enhance operational resilience and support long-term infrastructure sustainability.

Solar-Powered Solutions to Support Agriculture and Water Access

The project includes two solar-powered irrigation pumping stations, each with a capacity of 26 kW. The stations are designed to replace approximately 80 traditional diesel-powered pumps and provide irrigation water to around 180 agricultural feddans.

The initiative also features a decentralized solar-powered drinking water treatment station with a capacity of 16.5 kW, supplying approximately 15 cubic meters of drinking water daily. The station is expected to help avoid more than 56 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, with the project delivering a positive impact to more than 15,000 indirect beneficiaries.

The partnership addresses two key challenges facing local communities: the financial and environmental costs associated with diesel-powered irrigation, and the need to improve access to clean and safe drinking water. By addressing both priorities, the project aims to support public health and contribute to local economic and environmental development.

Smart Technology to Enhance Operational Efficiency

The collaboration demonstrates how strategic partnerships can combine investment and energy technology to deliver tangible benefits for local communities. Supported by Air Liquide Egypt’s investment, the project uses Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure technology and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions to improve operational efficiency, optimize resource consumption and enable real-time performance monitoring.

These capabilities are designed to support the reliable operation of the infrastructure over the long term, while encouraging more responsible use of water and energy resources.

Sebastien Riez, North Africa and Levant Cluster President at Schneider Electric, said the initiative demonstrates how electrification and digitalization can help address environmental, social and economic challenges at the community level.

He added that combining technology, strategic partnerships and a clear understanding of local needs can enable more efficient energy use, smarter resource management and greater resilience, helping create infrastructure that delivers lasting value to the communities it serves.

Prean Chetty, CEO of Air Liquide Egypt, said addressing community challenges requires integrated strategic partnerships that bring together technological innovation, social responsibility and sustainable funding.

He noted that the collaboration with Schneider Electric in Al-Radwan village combines the group’s commitment to sustainable development and the energy transition with smart infrastructure solutions, helping reduce the carbon footprint while easing economic and health burdens on Port Said residents and farmers.

The initiative also supports Egypt’s broader sustainability and development priorities, demonstrating the potential of decentralized, energy-efficient solutions to generate lasting community benefits while promoting more responsible management of water and energy resources.
