Giesecke+Devrient (G+D), a global SecurityTech company, and FraudAverse, specializing in financial crime prevention, have announced a strategic partnership that will significantly strengthen the ability of banks and fintechs to combat instant payment fraud, money mule networks, and card-not-present (CNP) fraud.
By integrating FraudAverse’s AI capabilities into G+D’s industry-leading payments portfolio, the two companies are providing a robust, intelligent layer of fraud prevention in areas where the risk is moving fastest and having the greatest impact on financial institutions worldwide.
Two of the most urgent challenges in today’s payment landscape are the increasing sophistication of criminal tactics and the growing pressure on banks to protect customer trust and ensure regulatory compliance. Payment card fraud losses worldwide amounted to $33.41 billion in 2024, according to the Nilson Report. This was tied to a global card volume of $51.920 trillion.
Additionally, the rise of real-time payments has created new opportunities for criminals, who exploit the speed of instant transactions to move stolen funds before intervention is possible. Money mule networks play a central role in this, providing accounts to receive and rapidly disperse illicit funds, often across multiple institutions. Deloitte estimates that authorized-push-payment fraud losses in the United States reached $8.3 billion in 2024 and could climb to $14.9 billion by 2028 as instant-payment rails expand and fraudsters increasingly turn to AI-driven social engineering.
In e-commerce, card-not-present (CNP) crime remains a major issue: without a physical card to support identity verification, checks are inherently more difficult, and stolen card details can be used to make purchases without the cardholder being present. More broadly, experts also point to a sharp rise in the speed and sophistication of attacks, driven by fraud-as-a-service models and generative AI.
Combating these fast-evolving fraud vectors that banks face today, is the driving force behind the partnership between G+D and FraudAverse. A key part of the collaboration involves integrating the cloud-native platform of FraudAverse with G+D Netcetera’s 3-D Secure Authentication solution. This combination of adaptive, AI-driven risk intelligence and risk-based authentication creates a more precise and efficient approach to fraud detection for banks and payment service providers, enabling real-time transaction monitoring and anti-money laundering (AML) capabilities.
The holistic approach helps financial institutions detect suspicious behavioral patterns earlier, reduce false positives, and strengthen fraud controls without creating unnecessary friction for legitimate customers.
‘Fraud is evolving too quickly for financial institutions to rely on static defenses,’ said Ryan Nowak, President of G+D’s PayTech business in the US. ‘By combining G+D’s long-standing payment and security technology expertise with the AI-driven fraud intelligence of FraudAverse, we are helping banks respond faster and more precisely to serious threats and fight financial crime.’
‘Combating instant payment fraud at scale requires real-time intelligence embedded directly into the payments ecosystem,’ said Constantin von Altrock, CEO of FraudAverse. ‘Together with G+D and its trusted fraud prevention portfolio, we can bring that capability to more financial institutions.’
G+D offers its global customers a comprehensive and proven portfolio of fraud prevention solutions across critical areas, including identity verification during the onboarding process, authentication solutions to prevent account takeover, and dynamic CVV and tokenization for e-commerce transactions. FraudAverse specializes in AI-powered fraud detection and financial crime prevention. The global partnership focuses particularly on the US, Latin America and Canada.
