SAP and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) are collaborating to develop Omani digital talent, connecting PDO’s Digital Innovation Program with the SAP Young Professionals program (YPP) to help prepare emerging professionals for careers in technology consulting.
As part of the collaboration, participants from PDO’s Digital Innovation Program are expected to join the next SAP YPP cohort beginning in November, continuing their development in enterprise technology and AI. The initiative was highlighted last week at PDO’s Digital Innovation Program graduation ceremony in Muscat, where participants in SAP’s YPP also marked the completion of their training.
“Building local digital skills is important both for the young people entering the workforce and for organizations that need access to qualified technology professionals,” said Waheed Al Hamaid, Head of Enterprise Solutions at PDO. “Our work with SAP gives Omani talent the opportunity to develop practical skills that reflect the needs of the market. Connecting our Digital Innovation Program with the SAP Young Professionals program gives participants another avenue to develop their expertise and pursue careers in the technology sector.”
Delivered by the Digital Skills Center, the SAP Young Professionals program equips recent graduates with the skills and SAP certifications they need to start careers as SAP consultants across SAP’s partner and customer ecosystem. In Oman, the latest graduates earned certifications in SAP Generative AI development and in implementing end-to-end business processes for SAP Business Suite, with hands-on training in SAP Generative AI Hub and SAP AI Launchpad covering prompt engineering, template management and workflow orchestration.
As organizations introduce AI into business processes, SAP customers and partners require professionals who understand both enterprise applications and how AI can be applied within them. YPP is designed to help expand this pool of skilled talent while giving recent graduates a route into the SAP ecosystem.
“AI is changing the skills expected of technology consultants, and this needs to be reflected in how we prepare people entering the profession,” said Alp Geckalan, Head of Digital Skills Center at SAP. “They need a strong understanding of enterprise processes as well as the ability to work with new AI tools. Working with PDO allows us to bring these areas together and give Omani graduates skills they can take into the workplace.”
PDO’s Digital Innovation Program develops digital skills among Omani talent through training, practical challenges and engagement with technology companies. Its inaugural cohort completed the eight-week program on September 22, with more than 5,000 training hours delivered by more than 40 trainers. SAP was among the technology companies and institutions participating in the initiative.
The next SAP Young Professionals program for Oman and other countries within SAP’s Fast Growth Markets cluster is scheduled to begin in mid-November and will run for two months. The program provides selected recent graduates with SAP training and certifications and supports their introduction to career opportunities with SAP customers and partners.
