The Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat), a leading satellite operator in the Middle East and North Africa, has announced the signing of an agreement with China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) to manufacture its new “Arabsat-50” satellite, coinciding with the organization’s 50th anniversary. The move aims to strengthen the sustainability of satellite broadcasting services and support operational capabilities in the years ahead.
“Arabsat-50” holds particular significance in Arabsat’s journey. Its name marks the organization’s Golden Jubilee, bringing together 50 years of Arab space heritage with a vision for a more advanced, resilient, and sustainable future.
Advanced Satellite Capabilities
“Arabsat-50” is a high-power Ku-band satellite designed to provide immediate and effective sustainability to support and ensure the continuity of Direct-to-Home (DTH) television broadcasting services from the 26° East orbital position. It will enhance the quality of services provided to satellite broadcasting customers while offering ready-to-use, integrated technical solutions for government and private media channels across the Middle East.
The satellite has been designed with operational flexibility in mind, enabling the redistribution or modification of beam and channel frequencies according to operational requirements. This will enhance capacity management efficiency and ensure service continuity.
A Reliable Platform
“Arabsat-50” is being developed in partnership with CGWIC and will be based on the DFH-3E platform, which has proven its reliability in space. The platform provides an integrated solution combining reliability, sustainability, operational efficiency, and economic viability.
The satellite will also support Arabsat’s continuity and disaster recovery plans by providing flexible backup solutions to support operations across ARABSAT’s satellite fleet orbital positions, particularly at 26° East. This will help meet the organization’s future Ku-band requirements.
