Banque du Caire IPO Adds EGP 80.8 Billion to EGX Market Value, Attracts Strong Investor Demand

The listing of Banque du Caire on the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) has added an estimated EGP 80.8 billion to the market’s capitalisation, following an offering that raised nearly EGP 36.4 billion through the sale of a 45% stake in the bank, Chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) Islam Azzam said on Monday.

Speaking at the EGX opening-bell ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Azzam described the listing as a major milestone in Egypt’s government privatisation programme, highlighting its role in expanding ownership, deepening the capital market and attracting investors capable of supporting the development of national assets.

The offering was priced at EGP 5.30 per share, valuing Banque du Caire at approximately EGP 80.8 billion. According to Azzam, demand for the private tranche reached EGP 205.8 billion, representing nearly six times coverage, while the public tranche was oversubscribed 27 times.

He noted that the bank’s listing contributed approximately 2.1% of the total market capitalisation of EGX-listed companies, based on the previous trading session.

Azzam also highlighted the coordination among the FRA, the State-Owned Companies Unit, the investment banks managing the offering, the legal adviser, the EGX, and Misr for Central Clearing, Depository and Registry. Their efforts covered the review of disclosures and the fair value of the shares, completion of regulatory requirements, and coordination of listing, trading and settlement procedures.

Strong Financial Position Supports Banque du Caire Listing

Azzam pointed to the bank’s financial performance and position, noting that its assets reached EGP 533 billion at the end of 2025, while loans stood at EGP 258 billion and customer deposits totalled EGP 401 billion.

Net profit amounted to EGP 16.1 billion, representing annual growth of 30%, while the bank’s capital adequacy ratio reached 22.06%.

The FRA Chairman reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to supporting the government’s offering programme and implementing the State Ownership Policy. He stressed that the FRA’s mandate extends beyond regulating offerings and trading to include enhancing transparency, safeguarding investors’ rights and ensuring equal opportunities across the market.

He added that the authority is working to simplify procedures within the framework of the law, address practical challenges through consultation, and strengthen the professional capabilities and financial literacy of companies preparing to list.

In this regard, the FRA’s training programme, delivered through the Financial Services Institute and the Egyptian Directors Centre, has included 118 participants from 34 companies, comprising temporarily listed companies and businesses targeted for future listing.

Banque du Caire IPO Attracts More Than $500 Million in Foreign Funds

For his part, EGX Chairman Omar Radwan said Banque du Caire’s IPO attracted more than $500 million in funds transferred from abroad, reflecting strong international and institutional interest in the offering.

The IPO raised EGP 36.37 billion through the sale of 45% of the bank’s shares, implying a market valuation of approximately EGP 80.8 billion.

Radwan said the public tranche was oversubscribed more than 27 times, with purchase orders exceeding 9.28 billion shares. The private tranche also recorded significant demand from institutional and international investors.

He described the successful offering as evidence of investor confidence in the Egyptian economy and the market’s capacity to accommodate large-scale transactions, marking a new stage in the development of Egypt’s capital market.

The offering comprised 6.8625 billion shares out of Banque du Caire’s total 15.25 billion shares, at a final price of EGP 5.30 per share. The bank’s issued capital stands at EGP 30.5 billion.

Radwan added that the EGX would continue developing new financial instruments to attract individual and institutional investors, as well as regional and international investment funds. These efforts aim to deepen market liquidity and strengthen the exchange’s role in providing financing for major national companies.
