Holcim Egypt, a leader in building materials and solutions and a member of the global Holcim Group, announced the appointment of Eng. Medhat Ismail as Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Mr. Khaled El Dokani, who has assumed the role of Region Head Asia, Middle East & Africa at Holcim Group. The appointment supports the company’s strategy to grow its business in the Egyptian market and expand its sustainable construction solutions, drawing on Eng. Ismail’s regional and international experience in business leadership and industrial operations.
Eng. Ismail brings more than 25 years of experience in the cement and building materials sector, spanning Egypt, the UAE, Iraq, Türkiye, Tanzania and France. This includes nearly two decades with Holcim Group, which he joined in 2007. He has held several leadership positions, including Regional Head of Geocycle for the Middle East and Africa, CEO in Tanzania and, most recently, CEO of Lafarge Iraq. He has a strong track record in driving sustainable growth, business development and operational improvement, supported by extensive expertise in decarbonization and circular economy solutions. Eng. Ismail holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Helwan University in Cairo.
Eng. Ismail’s appointment marks the continuation of Holcim Egypt’s progress in the local market and its contribution to sustainable development, supported by Holcim Group’s global capabilities. The company maintains its focus on innovation, industrial operational improvements, digital transformation and circular economy applications to meet the needs of the construction sector and deliver a positive impact on the economy, society and the environment.
Holcim Egypt operates a cement plant in Ain Sokhna with an annual production capacity of 9.5 million tonnes across five production lines, alongside a network of more than 10 ready-mix concrete plants and its specialised waste treatment arm, Geocycle Egypt. Its low-carbon construction solutions include a comprehensive portfolio of environmentally friendly products, such as ECOPlanet cement and ECOPact concrete, as well as the processing of waste into alternative fuels as a practical application of the circular economy. These efforts aim to improve resource efficiency and reduce emissions, supporting Egypt’s Vision 2030 and Holcim Group’s global sustainable construction strategy.
